SYNTHESIS AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SCREENING OF PYRAZOLINE DERIVATIVES BEARING A SULFONAMIDE MOIETY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Pyrazolines are five-membered nitrogen heterocycles that have attracted sustained interest as anti-inflammatory scaffolds, and the addition of a sulfonamide group recalls the selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors. This review, which reports no new data, summarises the published literature on the design, synthesis, structural characterisation and anti-inflammatory screening of pyrazoline derivatives bearing a sulfonamide moiety. It covers the usual chalcone-based synthetic route, the spectroscopic evidence used to confirm structures, in vitro and carrageenan paw oedema screening, and emerging structure-activity trends. Reported compounds often show activity comparable to reference drugs in rodent assays, but enzyme selectivity data, pharmacokinetics and safety work are limited, and results are hard to compare between laboratories.
