FORMULATION AND OPTIMISATION OF FAST-DISSOLVING ORAL FILMS OF ONDANSETRON USING BOX-BEHNKEN DESIGN
Main Article Content
Abstract
Fast-dissolving oral films are attractive for patients who cannot swallow tablets easily, including people who are nauseous. Ondansetron, a 5-HT3 antagonist given in small doses, is a natural candidate. This narrative review summarises published work on formulating such films and on using a Box-Behnken design to optimise them. It covers drug and patient factors, film formers, plasticisers and casting, the construction and analysis of the design, film characterisation, and quality by design context. It reports no new experimental data and proposes no optimised composition. The literature shows that designed experiments are efficient, but studies are mostly single-laboratory, in vitro and weakly replicated, so findings should be treated as method illustrations.
